Bringing the Neighborhood to the Park...

Walter Hood conducted a workshop at Penn State in February of 2011 expressing the idea of sampling to create a concept. The location of the project was in a dilapidated area of Pittsburgh known as The Hill District. The site was located on a slowly eroding and sliding landscape due to coal extraction.  Using the idea of sampling I had to develop a logical solution to prevent the site from eroding further.  I developed a sample based off of the slope and contours of the local upland forest, this sample would be overlayed onto the site to create a concept and solution to the design problem. The final presentation was to create a plan and a series of perspectives to show their designs.
